The Cottage

Old Abbey Cottage, named after its location on the historic Old Abbey Road is set back from the road along a pretty walkway revealing a row of five, 120-year-old railway cottages with original street lamps and floral baskets. It is an exceptionally quiet and picturesque location and the ideal holiday spot. The property sits opposite the ruins of the 800-year-old North Berwick Priory.

The cottage is set on two levels and sleeps up to five guests in three bedrooms; a super-king, a twin and small single bedroom (best suited to a child)  along with family bathroom, all on the first floor. The cosy, south-facing living room is sunny throughout the day with a wood burning stove for those cooler nights.

Off the living room is a separate dining room with pretty garden outlook and separate modern, newly refurbished kitchen have access to a west-facing porch and small, communal garden at the rear – a sunny evening spot, ideal for a quiet glass of something after a busy day on the beach!

Facilities

The cottage has just been refurbished to a very high standard. It has decorative elements of the sea in some rooms and Scottish themes in others for an authentic, rustic and comfortable feel.

The facilities include a 40 inch Sony Bravia Freeview HD TV and wifi (with a great signal!). Netflix is available along with a Sony HD DVD player and range of up to date DVDs for adults and kids. A Sony sound bar provides an excellent speaker system along with wifi so you can tune in your digital radio or preferred music system from your phone or tablet via Bluetooth.

There is a washer/dryer and fridge/freezer in the kitchen along with Nespresso coffee machine – we provide half a dozen capsules to get you going but don’t forget your own supply if you love your coffee fix! Each bedroom has a new, very comfortable and high quality, ortho-support bed along with fresh decor and furnishings throughout.

Garden area…..

Please note the garden area to the rear of the property is a communal area for residents of all five terraced cottages. This is a quiet and peaceful area. Guests are welcome to sit out using the chairs provided and enjoy the west facing aspect. Unfortunately we don’t allow entertaining of third parties, bbq’s or games as the area is too small. We ask that guests respect our neighbors privacy and ensure noise levels are kept to an agreeable level for all to enjoy.

Doggo’s welcome….

We accept a maximum of one dog which must be kept on a lead at all times whilst in the communal garden area. We ask that dogs are not left unattended in the cottage for any length of time and that guests please bring their own dog bedding and towels.

Location

The cottage is just a two-minute walk from the very floral (and award winning!) North Berwick train station where the train to and from Edinburgh and Glasgow terminates. It takes only 30 minutes to get into Edinburgh Waverley for a day trip of sightseeing and shopping. Free, on-street car parking is available outside the property. This is a residential parking area.
